It is a collaboration with Great Notion Brewing in Portland, Oregon. The artwork was done by Spring Whitaker and is a painting of my dad with his three favorite hawks since his early days as a falconer. I wanted to do something very special for his 60th Birthday and there was nothing that I could think of better than brewing a beer he would love with his trademark handlebar mustache featured front and center on the can.
This beer is an amalgamation of my dad’s favorite Great Notion beer formerly known as Juice Box (now JB) and a combination of my rye and wheat recipes. It is a very different beer than either of the first two ferrous releases. It is darker in color and also has a hint of spice due to the rye, a faint amount of bitterness, the level of carbonation was set to be in the middle of the first and second release, and it has big notes of kumquat and grapefruit. This 8.2% Hazy Double IPA is triple dry-hopped with Citra, Mosaic, Motueka, and Riwaka hops.
For those choosing to pick up their cans, it will take place at Urge in Rancho Bernardo again this time around. Shipping will be offered just like the previous two releases. Pickups will begin Thursday, 3/11/2021 at 4 pm.
